WHAT IS GSM?
Share
Oz here,
First blog installment, I figured I would talk about one of the most important topics when it comes to choosing the right shirt/merch for your brand.
Its part of the reason why some shirts feel cheap while other feel more premium.
GSM stands for Grams per Square Meter - its a standard for measuring how heavy the fabric is.
The way to test your fabric is to use a sample textile cutter that cuts a pre sized circle. Its a specific standard so best to use the right tools when doing these measurements. I'll add the link below in case you're interested.

You have various companies that make different weights and here's a simple guide you can use when buying shirts,
120 - 160 GSM (3.5-4.7oz) - Lightweight - Great for summer, undershirts, etc.
Next Level - 3600 - 4.1 oz
180-220 GSM (5-6.5oz) - Mid weight - These are your everyday tees.
COMFORT COLORS C1717
240-320 GSM (7-9.5 oz) - Heavyweight - These are what you typically see in streetwear, and premium blanks.
COTTON COLLECTIVE, HEAVY BOX TEE (9 OZ)
Newer fashion trends have been pushing this number down creating a more minimalistic and breathable fabric. You'll find some of these ultra thin fabrics beings used by brands like Fear of God, Museum of Peace and Quiet, or John Elliot.
These fabrics tend to be more fluid and feel less structured which add to the level of comfort. Perfect for summer wear.
If you have any questions of the shirts you see about, please feel free to reach out!
Peace!
